Learning to Walk with God – There are no shortcuts to Christian maturity and usefulness—no easy paths or simple formulas. We learn the hard lessons through trial and error. We also learn to do by doing, through on-the-job training in the trench warfare of real life. Through experiencing the hand of God in the ups and downs of our lives, God becomes very real to us. It’s an exciting journey. It’s also exciting to participate with a group for encouragement in this walk.

The “Becoming Class” for Women – A college student who became a missionary has these words taped to his mirror: “It’s all in the becoming!” What did he mean? Perhaps he did not want to become stagnant. The dictionary defines stagnant as: not flowing, not active, changing or progressing, not advancing or developing. A Christian who is not ‘becoming’ will become stagnant in her faith…she will not develop; she will not progress in her Christian growth, so we need to always be ‘becoming’. We are continuing our study of Genesis…seeing how “God designed a nation He could use to bring the Messiah to a lost and dying world…and to show the world the characteristics of Himself. God helped the founding fathers of our faith to become this kind of people, and He will help us too! Remember, if we are not ‘becoming’, we are either moving backwards or we are stagnant.

A Spiritual Journey Through the Twelve Steps – How is your life working for you? Is it filled with trauma-drama? Would you like peace with God, peace with yourself, and peace with others? This study is an intimate look at oneself using the Twelve Steps and corresponding Biblical text as a guide. It will challenge you to examine yourself (with the guidance of the Holy Spirit) and walk through the process of discovery, change, and healing by the power of Jesus. (This is a continuation of the fall session; you should be ready to work on the 4th step.) Facilitator: Nancy Gillespie/Room 312/Women
Proverbs – The Book of Proverbs clearly defines how God expects His people to find meaningful existence. In doing this, two doctrines are emphasized: the human search for meaning and the nature of God. The revealed wisdom of Proverbs clearly tells God’s people how to relate to both God and other people. Proverbs also reminds us that we are all walking down the road of life, a road with two branches. The one chosen by the wise produces joy, happiness, and a meaningful existence as well as an eternal hope. The other chosen by the foolish brings about heartache, sorrow, and ultimate destruction.

Practical Lessons for Understanding the Word of God – This group will focus on some of the practical issues that we all face in living a life of obedience to God: an active prayer life, standing tall and strong daily, calling on God in times of need and challenging circumstances, etc. We will be using some resources provided by Dr. Charles Stanley.

The Book of Daniel – Within the story The LORD has given through Daniel are the echoes of many things to come. Daniel is told that they are sealed for his time but at the end of the age they will be revealed. What are some of the things we should expect that will be revealed? How will they look like some of the events of the past but be different? Who is the one that bestows gifts on Israel like no one ever has? There are so many questions that can be answered if we look to Daniel and the other books of the Bible. It takes them with the marvelous help of the Messiah to even begin to understand the book of “Daniel”. This will be our adventure. (This is a continuation from the fall session.)

Real Faith for the Real World - The book of James is a practical, down-to-earth book that describes Christian maturity and how to get there. James sets the attitudes that a grown-up Christian should have: perseverance, humility and patience. He also teaches that it is not just what we believe that counts -- it is our whole life.

Relationships and Passions Transformed: A Love and Wisdom Unlike Any Other—How can we resolve conflict with other people? How do our passions affect our relationships? How can we live in a way that builds harmony and glorifies God? Are there answers? Is there a solution? Or have we gone too far? Is our course so set that there is no turning away? If it depended on man, the answer would be yes—no turning around, no turning back. But there is God! He has the answers. We need His answers. We will look at His instructions as we go through 1 Corinthians.
